What to look for when purchasing Avocado OilUpdated 3 days ago

While we do not recommend specific brand names for Avocado Oil, choosing a high-quality product is essential to ensure you receive its full nutritional and health benefits. Based on Dr. Berg's educational principles, here is the best guidance to help you select a premium avocado oil on your own:

Best Practices for Purchasing Avocado Oil

  • Look for "Extra Virgin" or "Cold-Pressed": This is the most crucial factor. Cold-pressed, extra-virgin avocado oil is extracted using mechanical pressure without high heat or harsh chemical solvents (such as hexane). This ensures that the delicate monounsaturated fats, antioxidants, and vitamin E remain completely intact and undamaged.
  • Check the Color (Green is Key): High-quality, unrefined extra-virgin avocado oil should have a distinct, vibrant green color. This color comes from the natural chlorophyll and carotenoids present in the avocado fruit. If the oil is completely clear or pale yellow, it has likely been heavily refined, bleached, and stripped of its beneficial phytonutrients.
  • Choose Dark Glass Packaging: Light and oxygen are the enemies of healthy fats. Always purchase avocado oil that comes in a dark amber or green glass bottle. Avoid clear glass or plastic bottles, as exposure to light can cause the oil to oxidize and go rancid much faster.
  • Verify the Ingredient List: The ingredient label should list exactly one thing: 100% Pure Avocado Oil. Avoid products labeled "avocado oil blends," which are often cut with cheap, highly inflammatory industrial seed oils such as soy, canola, or cottonseed oil.
  • Taste and Aroma Profile: Pure, unrefined avocado oil should have a mild, pleasant, slightly nutty or buttery flavor that genuinely tastes like avocados. If the oil has a chemically sweet aroma, a completely neutral taste, or a bitter, rancid flavor, it is an indication of poor quality or heavy refining.
